Northern Bobwhites are on the endangered species list in the United States. Their populations have decreased with the loss of suitable habitats such as woody and brushy areas, hedgerows, and similar habitats. Most of the changes in Quail habitat are due to human activities. Thus, abundant logging results in creating appropriate sites for the species. By contrast, agriculture activities and extensive use of chemicals lead to decline in Northern Bobwhite Quail habitats.

To better manage the species, research work is needed to estimate the types of habitats ideal for Northern Bobwhites. This will allow planning of forestry activities, taking into consideration the species' needs. Moreover, private landowners will have a clear-cut idea of how their lands should be managed to maintain Quail numbers.

Stocking Northern Bobwhites for release does not always appear to profit the species. There is a high mortality rate among these birds. Banning of hunting as the means of Quail management is considered unnecessary. Research has proved that Quail numbers do not suffer greatly from hunting. Besides, there are some positive aspects of regulated Quail hunting. Money that is received from selling hunting licenses and paying taxes when purchasing specialized arms is used in further research concerning wildlife management. Thus, the management of agriculture activities and creation of suitable habitats for Northern Bobwhites are considered vital for the species maintenance.
